During our topic on: Children of War, Class 6 have been inspired by the book 'Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes'. They have been researching Japan at the time of the atomic bomb and the effects it had on Hiroshima. The children were keen to write messages of hope which we will be sending off to the Children's Peace Monument, Hiroshima. Along with their message, they have folded a paper crane. These are sent from children all around the world and are offered around the monument. Ancient Japanese traditions says that one who folds a thousand cranes can have one wish granted. The story of Sadako is a true story of hope and courage. During parents evening, the class messages will be in a book in the ICT Suite for parents to read and you will see their display in the classroom.
